Jazz Mafia, Forrest Day, and Otis McDonald at The Chapel
Doors at 7.
Based out of Oakland, Forrest Day is a 5 piece band that's been performing concerts around the country for more than a decade. It's a true rags to riches story, but without any money. New album in the works, shows being booked, this wonka boat is showing no signs of slowing...
From the mind and ears of San Francisco based producer/multi-instrumentalist, Joe Bagale, comes a sound that is fresh but tangibly rooted in nostalgia. The name is Otis McDonald. In 2015, Bagale began releasing new music under the this alias. Released as copyright free music, exclusively through the YouTube audio library, by 2016 his tracks had been downloaded over 3 million times, and appeared in over 3.5 million videos all around the world with an astonishing total of 7.6 billion views. In 2020 Bagale launched a weekly live stream on his popular YouTube Channel where he writes and records a brand new track while engaging with his fans. In the fall of 2020 he started releasing a brand new single every single week on all streaming platforms and since 2018 he's released 20 albums and continues to release new music regularly. Whether it's performing, writing, producing, or coming up with new ways to engage with his fans, Otis McDonald plans on giving the world a dose of the past while always looking to the future.

NOTE: This is a listing for TWO shows. Show 1 is from 7 to 9 pm. Show 2 is from 9 to 11 pm. Show selection can be made when purchasing tickets.
Jazz Mafia is presenting an ambitious tribute to one of jazz’s most iconic contributors. We will perform Herbie’s “Thrust” and “Head Hunters” in their entirety. Both albums were recorded in San Francisco, with “Head Hunters” in 1973 and “Thrust” in 1974, and are definitive Jazz-Funk masterpieces that have influenced generations of musicians.
“Thrust” is celebrated for its fusion of jazz complexity with funk grooves and heavy backbeats, while “Head Hunters” revolutionized jazz fusion with its innovative sound. These albums have profoundly impacted the careers of the musicians involved and are beloved by Herbie’s audiences. If any crew can pull off this celebration of Herbie Hancock’s legacy, it’s this one. Join us for an evening of vibrant and innovative music that honors the 50th anniversary of both “Thrust” and “Head Hunters,” and celebrates the enduring legacy of Herbie Hancock.
